Governments’ recovery service gets stuttering global car production going

As it turns out, and following highly effective widespread autoindustry aid measures to prevent a serious crisis from turning into calamity, earlier nightmarish fears of slipping head-first into a 1930s-style economic depression clearly did not materialise. Autoindustry leaders have reason to be hugely relieved, and the reasons why their fingers can be uncrossed and the breath released are only too easily spotted.

  Provisional AID compiled autoindustry figures for last year, based on a sample of key global markets, show that last year’s passenger car production only missed year earlier levels by just under 12 per cent.
