Volkswagen, which edged ahead of crisis-struck
Toyota in last year’s global vehicle sales league
for the first time, with group sales soaring to
a highest-ever 8.16m units, has launched the
smallest car in its current vehicle line-up. It is called the Volkswagen up!, and will be followed soon by near identical twins with respective Škoda and SEAT badges. Other than that, the group’s new tiddler will ultimately comprise a comprehensive family of range-entry cars, some of which are confi dently expected to be built in both India and Brazil, where small inexpensive cars with few frills still account for the lion’s share of annual sales
