Audi, the highly profitable and fast-growing high-end
brother of the Volkswagen marque, has reworked its
mainstream A4 model range to catch up with BMW’s newly
rolled out 3-Series, the traditional benchmark car in the
sector. AID drives the latest 2012MY A4 and concludes that Audi’s ‘Vorsprung durch Technik’ motto has been superseded by almost timeless elegance inside and out, comfort and class, accompanied for good measure by the notable progress on both the car’s dynamic ability and CO2 efficiency.

main BMW 3-Series rival. UK prices for the 2012 A4 model
range start at £23,625 for the petrol-fuelled 120PS 1.8 TFSI
– the CO2
112g/km diesel-fuelled 136PS 2.0 TDIe, the likely top-seller
in the range, is priced at £26,555
