WESTERN EUROPE - Poor March, down 7.1%
Bargains and gleaming new metal fail to lift Europeís showroom gloom

The deepening economic problems facing West Europeís new car market are doubly underlined by Acea compiled statistics showing that new car sales fell 7.1 per cent in March, compared with the same month last year.

This was the regionís 6th successive fall in a row, thus pointing to a significantly lower than earlier anticipated annual car sales rate.

The marketís steadily deteriorating rate of decline, and in particular the sudden headlong dive seen in gloom-struck France, where March sales plunged by an eye watering 23.2 per cent, has tempted AID forecasters to the view that this yearís total car sales haul in Western Europe could conceivably fall by a markedly steeper than earlier feared 5 to 7 per cent to around 12 million units, which has been the annualised sales rate in the first three months of the year ...more
