Detroit car makers lose earlier gains

Have stocks will trade - May’s superficial happy car sales tale is certainly not what it seems – Sales bounce greatly distorted by remarkably effective comeback efforts from chiefly Toyota and Honda who, thanks to last year’s crippling supply handicaps, ranked among last year’s biggest victims of the crunch. Judged from May’s sales surge, both Japanese giants have doubly underlined their dogged determination to not only claw back the market share lost last year to Detroit’s rivals, but also the ground lost to anyone else

May’s outwardly impressive electrifying rate of US Light-vehicle sales expansion isn’t quite what it seems.

May’s US market share gains from strongly rebounding Japanese brands


Instead of the implied sharp acceleration in the market’s underlying sales rate, May’s bullish looking 25.7 per cent jump in sales is due foremost to the expected big rebound from some of Japan’s earlier supply strapped carmakers, which couldn’t fail but catapult May sales into extra high orbit.

An already recovering US Light-vehicle market received an extra big boost in May, thanks mainly to the long-expected strong comeback from some of Japan’s earlier supply handicapped carmakers
