The press launch of a new
Executive-Sector car like the
Mercedes E-Class, BMW 5-Series or
the Audi A6, which have made most of their
long-held sector stranglehold in Europe, is
generally a grand affair with great pomp and
ceremony. By contrast, Lexus’ new GS, which supersedes a model that never managed to rise above a lowly also-ran position in Europe, drifted almost unnoticed into UK dealer showrooms this month. UK prices for the new 4th generation Lexus GS, styled as a booted conventional 4-door saloon, start at £32,995 for the V6-powered GS 250SE, spiralling to a piercing £50,995 for the range-topping GS 450h Premier trim hybrid.
