Germany's car dealerships appeared eerily quiet in January

There was one development that was particularly disappointing for an already wary autoindustry.

In Germany, still the region’s biggest car market, the new year also got off to a false start.

January’s new car sales fell by a markedly steeper than feared 8.9 per cent, thus keeping the region’s biggest market firmly on a downward trajectory.
