 After a brief rebound, this August Europe’s car sales were struggling again, pulled down by yet another dip in Germany. The renewed car sales slide dampened the party atmosphere at this year’s Frankfurt motor show, but commentators remain unsure as to whether August’s 5.3 per cent dip in sales was a mere blip or the premature end of a previously promising looking recovery phase. Hopes of a gradually strengthening European car sales recovery were dealt a blow earlier this month by far weaker than expected car sales activity this August, raising fears that the market’s still faint green shoots of recovery are already starting to wilt again.
