Contrary to the realisation that Europe’s new car buyers, and Britain’s consumers no less, have never shown even a blind bit of interest in three-box saloon versions of otherwise hugely popular Golf class hatchbacks, Audi for one is willing to give it a go. A 4-door three-box version of its A3 hatchback reached UK showrooms in September with retail prices starting at £22,180 for the manual 140PS 1.4 litre petrol derivative. Prices for the 105PS 1.6 litre diesel start at £22,280 If it sometimes seems as if there’s a Golf hatchback on every other drive in Europe, the Golf’s booted brother - the Jetta - still remains a rare sight in Europe. £22,180 So in spite of the carmakers’ repeated failure to switch
