![]() Global sales of Mercedes’ status-rich cars jumped 11.3 per cent in July to 130,003 units, maintaining its streak as the fastest growing notable prestige carmaker. In spite of its segment leading rate of advance, in both July and the 7-months to date the brand with the famous three-pointed star mascot remains outsold on the global premium car stage by still larger BMW and Audi. That’s chiefly because BMW and Audi, all too aware of Mercedes’ well-oiled challenge for the world’s prestige sector crown, have upped the ante, thus frustrating Mercedes’ wholehearted attempt to catch up. While consolidating its third position in the world’s closely watched premium car sales league, so far Mercedes’ extra efforts have made little impression on the entrenched dominating position of its no less aristocratic German peers. That’s both in July and the year to date. 11.3%
