Whichever way latest Russian autoindustry statistics are analysed, the overriding view is that the entire industry, with few notable exception, is suffering a dismal year.

None more than Russian’s own AvtoVaz, thus continuing a deeply entrenched trend into a downward direction.

Russia’s intensifying domestic car sales famine has hit Lada harder than most.

Its eight months sales to August fell at nearly twice the market rate, thus trimming its long-slipping domestic car sales share to just 16.7 per cent.

That compares with 18.1 per cent at the same stage last year.

Its renewed slide down the slippery slope has again focused observers’ attention on Lada’s seemingly unrelenting woes.

All of this throws a timely spotlight on the extent of Lada’s bloodletting in a market that still accounts for the lion’s share of its annual sales.
