France’s €10,000 superbonus sparks June electric car sales rally

Renault ZOE Paris France charging June 2015 sales

Following a comparative lull after April’s opening sales broadside, last month saw yet another dramatic firework display in France’s previously largely dormant electric car market.

Last month’s French electric car sales pole-vaulted to yet another all-time record.

June’s French electric car sales more than doubled, zooming to 2,336 units, thus reaching the highest electric car sales total for any month on record.

Again, last month’s sales surge was fuelled by Renault’s domestically built ZOE.

Its June sales shot up to 1,482 units from last year’s comparative same month sales of just 641 units.

June’s bumper electric car sales in France pave the way for a likely doubling in this year’s French electric car sales.

Halfway through the year sales already jumped to 8,032 units from 4,360 during the corresponding period last year. Since April 1st, French electric car buyers who also scrap a 14 year or older diesel are eligible for a total bonus of €10,000.

This so-called “Superbonus” is made up of the long-familiar €6,300 electric car bonus plus a further €3,700 handout for those scrapping an old diesel car at the same time...more
