Mercedes, the
manufacturer of high-status prestige cars has last year comfortably
recaptured the sales crown in the lucrative world of global prestige
sector sales. Originally, Mercedes had set 2020 as the target for
unseating BMW from its long-held global prestige sector throne.
Worldwide, Mercedes also retained the coveted title as the fastest
growing German prestige carmaker
Buoyed in large measure by its substantial extra car sales efforts
in last year’s still fast expanding Chinese car market, where cars
with the three pointed star sold 26.6 per cent faster than the year
before, last year’s global Mercedes car sales rose 11.3 per cent to a
sector topping 2.08m units, thus beating compatriots BMW and Audi into
respective second and third position in global prestige sector ranking.
The Mercedes car brand, buoyed in large measure by a comparative
avalanche of desirable new models and in particular by an on-going sales
push in some of the world’s biggest car markets, unceremoniously
dethroned BMW as the world’s long-ruling manufacturer of high-status
