Hard evidence, if any were needed, that West Europe’s badly rocked diesel car market is heading into only one direction – downwards – comes with latest October car sales data. But a true measure of the collapse in regional diesel car demand and a sign that for diesels things are getting progressively worse, October’s diesel car sales share took a headlong 7.3 percentage point plunge to 42.1 per cent from 49.4 per cent during the same month last year
AID’s own exclusive figures reveal that West Europe’s October diesel car sales took yet another trend-bucking plunge, continuing a progressive deterioration evident since the closing months of 2015.
Evidence that underlying regional demand for diesels didn’t just fall but plunge, in a months that saw a comparatively lively 4.6 per cent rise in overall new car sales diesels dived by 10.8 per cent.
In consequence, the now closely monitored car sales share attributable to diesel fuelled cars slumped to just 42.1per
