There was one development in particular that simply could
not fail but attract the attention of serious autoindustry
observers. In Brazil’s highly taxed car market, where most of the new car business is made up of small cars with few frills, a few Chinese carmakers have set up shop. In the hope of establishing a bridgehead in what ranks as one of the world’s potentially fastest growing new car markets, and where cheap and cheerful small cars with few frills have accounted for the lion’s share of sales, some enterprising Chinese carmakers have evidently decided to chance their luck
