As if to add salt to their wounds, and in pin-sharp contrast
to the headlong plunge from Renault’s Dacia bargain brand,
Hyundai’s March sales bucked the steep downward trend with a
bullish March jump of more than a half, bringing its
year-on-year gain at the first quarter post to 21.4 per
cent. No less galling for domestics, and hot on Hyundai’s coattails, Kia‘s first quarter sales in the Lion’s den rose by an even faster 26.6 per cent, following a no less humiliating jump of more than a third during March itself. Other than that, today’s car trading conditions in France are such that even leading importers like Volkswagen, Ford and Opel were not immune to the downturn, each suffering double-digit falls in France’s gloom-struck March car market
