Striking contrasts in 1st quarter global car production

Contrasting car production statistics present a picture of a two-speed industry that is growing at a double-digit rate in some parts of the world while recession struck Europe has seen an accelerating rate of decline

Global passenger car production, whilst beating year ago levels by close on 10 per cent during this year’s opening quarter, projects a pattern of light and shade.

At one end of the spectrum, carmakers are boosting car production, hiring back workers, and adding overtime to the production schedule, while on the exact other end carmakers are reacting to a distinct downturn in sales by throttling back earlier high build rates at their car plants.

All in all , thanks to an intensifying recovery in previously hard-struck Japan and a strong rebound in North America, first quarter global car production rose by almost 10 per cent, thus keeping this year’s turnout on course for yet another car output record
