Hybrid aid drives sales in Japan
Japanís 2012 car market performed much better than first feared

Japanís previously gloom-struck consumers, encouraged by the governmentís Ďeco-carí incentives, which were finally phased out in late September, helped boost last yearís Japanese car market by 29.7 per cent to 4.57 million cars

Recovery from the earthquake and tsunami in early 2011, when Japanís car sales slumped 16.3 per cent to just 3.5 million units, was a forgone conclusion.

For the hard-struck industry things were helped along a great deal last year by the re-introduction of incentives for low emission cars which in turn were intended to reinvigorate Japanís previously stalled new car market
