Mercedes plans to boost production of A-Class family cars in China

With eyes focused not so much on today’s Chinese patterns of new car demand, but instead on the future potentially expanding market for cheaper, more fuel-efficient and more compact prestige-badge cars in China, Mercedes and its BAIC partner gave notice of their intention to build more of Mercedes’ compact cars in China

Daimler, in a joint statement with its Chinese partner BAIC Motor Corporation said it would now expand its current annual production of its new compact car range in China, requiring a joint-investment of €1bn for the announced compact car capacity expansion.

That’s part of the planned intention to jointly invest €4bn by 2015 in their joint Chinese operation.
