True vintage year for Mercedes 
Bumper result for 2014 - expects further “significant growth” for current year - same goes for van and truck range

Encouraged by sector leading growth in last year’s global prestige sector league and still brimming with confidence thanks to a sackful of new appealing products that customers want to buy, Mercedes was evidently keen to be the first prestige carmaker to trumpet its continuing good news in this year’s eagerly awaited spring results season.

Testament to Mercedes’ continuing run of good news during this past financial year ending December last year, the company drew attention to highest-ever unit sales of 2.5 million vehicles, matched for good measure by both record sales revenue and earnings. 

If that weren’t enough, for the current year Mercedes is also painting a rosy picture.

The “outlook for 2015: significant growth expected of unit sales, revenue and EBIT from ongoing business”, the company said. 

For the current year, Mercedes not only predicts “significantly” higher pre-tax earning from its car division. 

It has similar high expectations from both its truck and van operations. Mercedes said that both of these commercial vehicle operations will end 2015 with “significantly” higher (EBIT) pre-tax earnings.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating. 

True to the maxim, and excluding Smart sales, the Mercedes car brand kicked off the current year with yet another firework display of strength. 

Its January global prestige car sales rose by a sector-leading 13.6 per cent to close on 126,000 sales, thus beating BMW into the runner-up slot for the first month of this year
