Apart from sector pioneering Toyota, and a promising start from Mitsubishi’s Outlander plug-in hybrid (PHEV), last year was a repeat performance of earlier years.

That’s to say that no other carmaker has yet managed to produce any halfway decent hybrid sales in this diesel-dominated region.

That’s the sobering message from AID’s exclusively compiled latest hybrid car sales figures for Western Europe, showing that more than eight in ten of the barely 200,000 hybrid cars sold in the entire West European region last year were Toyota-Lexus products.

All other me-too hybrid carmakers - including Mitsubishi’s fast-starting Outlander PHEV - shared the remaining 35,000 hybrid cars that found buyers in Western Europe last year ...more
