In what generally ranks as the most significant holiday month of the year, typified more often than not by dealers’ deserted car showrooms, August still stands out as this year’s third best sales month for electric cars in (BEVs) Western Europe. The lively rate of growth seen of late in much of Europe, and this August in particular, gives rise to the more upbeat view that from now on electric cars in Europe could sell in higher numbers than forecasters in and out of the industry had earlier predicted
Buoyed by yet another bumper sales month in Norway, ably assisted by notably hotter than earlier expected sales in the Netherlands, Sweden, Spain, and Germany in particular, West Europe’s August electric car sales (BEVs) rose nearly two-thirds to almost 10,000 sold units,
according to AID’s own latest monthly sales numbers.
Last month's strong turnout strengthened the opinion that this year’s BEV market in Western Europe is set to exceed some of the more conservative sales forecasts made at the very start of this year.
Setting the stage for a rosier than earlier anticipated full-year BEV sales turnout, West Europe’s sector sales share this August already climbed to 1.2 per cent.
It brings West Europe’s cumulative BEV sales share to August to 0.9 per cent.
This compares with 0.6 per cent during last year’s same eight months period, according to AID’s own data.
