Latest data, compiled by AID every month, suggests that West Europe’s badly hammered diesel car market, while still weak, is no longer deteriorating at the speed seen during last year
This July, without a single exception, diesel car sales fell in every West European market covered every month by AID’s market observers.
That adds up to a 12 per cent drop in diesel car sales in an overall car market that grew by a contrasting 8.9 per cent.
In consequence, West Europe’s diesel car sales share in July slipped to 36.5 per cent from 45.2 per cent during the same month last year.
The good news is that under closer scrutiny it isn’t quite as bad as it looks.
But then again, these first signs of a slowing decline could be little more than a temporary check, capable of change at short notice, rather than a fundamental shift....
