The only other significant development in Januaryís West European electric car market capable of attracting the serious attention of both electric carmakers and market observers alike took place once more in Norway, which currently stands alone as the regionís only market with a genuine consumer interest for todayís electric cars.

A case in point, sales of electric cars this January rose almost a third to 337 units, propelled along almost entirely by a month-on-month jump of more than a quarter from Nissanís LEAF.

With 265 willing buyers this January, the LEAF alone accounted for close on eight-in-ten of all electric cars sold in Norway that month.

Further evidence, if any were needed, that Norwayís unique tax structure has in effect created a level playing field for both conventionally and battery powered cars, is that in January Nissanís LEAF
ranked as the 9th best seller in Norway
