European truck market slips back
Europe’s truck market slips back into deepest winter

After just a dozen or so months of steady truck sales recovery during late 2010 and all of 2011, kindling hope that the icy grip that has held West Europe’s truck market in the deepest winter chill for all of 2009 and early 2010 was about to loosen its hold, since the beginning of last year the market slipped back into reverse, dragged down by the seemingly unrelenting financial crisis in eurozone countries

Last year’s renewed truck sales drought has progressively worsened as the year wore on. 

Instead of the hoped for normalisation, coming in the wake of an encouraging 23.1 per cent rise in sales in 2011, figures show that last year’s truck sales in Western Europe - vehicles of more than 3.5 tonnes GVW - dropped 9 per cent to just 255,090 units, according to Acea supplied data
