In best April tradition, mix of sunshine and showers for Europeís anxious electric car industry

The good news for the electro car industry is that Aprilís first-time registrations of their plug-in cars in Western Europe were up almost a half. 

The not so good news is that the industryís total haul this same April reached just under 2,600 units, thus accounting for a near invisible 0.26 per cent of the regionís new car market.

This closely watched segment may be showing some outwardly encouraging signs of life, but the realisation that this yearís jump compares with last yearís very low base puts a damper on belated
take-off hopes.

Pouring more cold water on the fanciful idea that the regionís still embryonic electric car market was about to get into first gear, Aprilís numerically impressive 50 per cent jump was due principally to some special factors.
