World car production recovery slowing
World car production has slowed to a crawl

Compared to last year, when global car production rose by some 6 per cent to just over 70m units, AID compiled figures for this yearís first half reveal that global production has barely grown at all, thanks to a rundown of existing stocks

Halfway through the current year, global car production only narrowly topped last yearís comparative levels, with AIDís provisional world car production estimates pointing to a sluggish 1.2 per cent growth. 

Thatís just half the rate of global car sales expansion seen in this yearís first half, thus pointing to a continuing rundown of existing stock levels.

If true, which seems likely, a large chunk of this yearís sales - growing globally by an estimated 2.8 per cent during the first half - were met from bloated stocks of unsold cars rather than higher production. ...more
