Instead, believing that today’s hybrids were little more than a temporary gap filler on the way to a notable market for all-electric cars in Europe, Renault put its money into a series of road-going electric vehicles. But even its latest volume produced electric car, launched with high hopes during the early part of this year, has clearly failed to capture buyers’ imaginations. During the 10-months to October this year, just over 7,400 Zoes were registered in the whole of Western Europe, with more than half registered in France, according to AID figures.
