The widely anticipated hangover from the frantic pre-buying binge of Euro 5 trucks during the closing months of last year is most notable for its absence

Instead of falling as generally expected, latest West European sales figures for trucks show three successive months of higher sales, thus bringing this year’s first quarter West European total for trucks in the 16t and over GVW class to a surprisingly buoyant 10.4 per cent.

Adding to this year’s upbeat developments on the truck sales front, thus putting a more positive note to this year’s likely full year prospects, West Europe’s heavy truck market grew 6.6 per cent in March, marking the third successive month of growth.

Whichever way this year’s West European truck sales are analysed, these upbeat developments during the opening three months of this year, when looked at in total isolation, couldn’t be less like the ones earlier expected....more
