Britain’s truck market, echoing the upbeat trends already seen in last year’s car market, bounced back to the pre-crisis levels last seen in 2008, thanks in no small part to a massive pre-buying spell in December.

The implied bullishness seen in the UK during last year’s closing months is actually deceptive.

It has tempted some observers to the view that last year’s extensive pre-buying may yield a hangover during this year’s opening quarter.

Sales during last year’s final month, thanks to the extensive pre-buying binge of cheaper Euro 5 trucks prior to the obligatory introduction of Euro 6 trucks this January, rocketed ahead more than threefold to a bumper 11,351 units from just 3,579 during the same month in 2012....more
