Mercedes Trucks, thanks to US, posts 29% jump in 9-months profits

Despite darkening clouds on Europe’s truck sales horizon, Mercedes more than made up for sagging sales of its trucks in Europe with a notable uplift in North America’s still buzzing truck sales arena.

Although Mercedes’ 3rd quarter truck sales in Western Europe already trail last year’s levels by a sobering 11 per cent, the slack was more than made up by a contrasting 28 per cent surge in its US sales during the same quarter.

Current good fortunes of its US Freightliner offshoot, after elevating its 3rd quarter US sales to 39,125 units, compensated not only for Mercedes’ sales shortfall in Western Europe, it also made up for a steep 23 per cent plunge in Mercedes’ 3rd quarter truck sales in Latin America. ...more
