Recent history reveals that in Europe’s cutthroat automotive business nothing can be taken for granted and anybody resting on their laurels will suffer the unpalatable consequences

Toyota, currently crossing swords with Germany’s Volkswagen Group for the coveted title of ‘World’s leading vehicle maker’ is no exception. 

Not so very long ago Toyota was not only Europe’s top-selling Japanese car brand, but also won laurels for its hitherto unchallenged good efforts that eventually crowned Toyota as the world’s greenest carmaker.

To the motoring public at large its trail-blazing Prius was seen as planet-saver and the future of motoring.

Add to that the enviable reputation of building some of the industry’s most dependable mass-market cars, distinguished by first class workmanship, quality and reliability and what you’ve got was an image worth dying for.
