 West Europe’s heavy truck market, echoing the continuing upbeat trends already spotted in the region’s passenger car market, has not lost the capacity to surprise outsiders and ever the autoindustry itself. Confounding the doomsayers, who predicted a flat market at the beginning of this year, West Europe’s market for heavy trucks recorded double-digit growth in eight of the past nine months. AID forecasters, encouraged by no detectable heat loss to date, now believe that this year’s West European heavy truck market is heading for the best annual turnout since 2008. Since the beginning of this year sceptics have been confounded as West Europe’s heavy truck market has continued to recover far faster than forecast. Sales this September rose 17.8 per cent, bringing the cumulative truck sales gain after nine successive months of strong and unwavering recovery growth to a matching 17.8 per cent.
