 West Europe’s truck sales figures in 2013 and 2014, thanks to the extensive pre-buying binge of Euro 5 trucks in 2013, were more akin to a distorted mirror rather than a true market barometer. Good news is that from now on this greatly distorted picture should get a great deal clearer, thus providing truck market observers with a more realistic picture of true underlying demand in the region Encouraging, despite the absence of continent-wide March truck sales data, pockets of AID compiled data for a few selected markets still points to an ongoing truck sales recovery in much of Europe. After the monumental statistical distortions that have shaped West Europe’s heavy truck market during last year and the year before, this year may be about to see a gradual return to near normal truck trading conditions. The consequence is that from now on the distorted underlying picture seen during these past two years will get clearer as the year unfolds.
