Zoe was last year’s top-selling BEV in Western Europe, AID’s own data reveals

Western Europe Top Selling Electric car sales 2016 by model

Renault’s Zoe was last year’s top-selling electric car in Western Europe with 21,240 registered, 15.3 per cent higher than the 18,423 units registered in the previous full year, according to AID’s exclusive own data. Adding more praise, with 2,853 cars registered Zoe also topped December’s West Europe’s BEV league. But it certainly wasn’t a one horse race. Nissan’s Leaf took last year’s runner-up slot followed in third position by BMW’s i3, which was last year’s fastest notable gainer, according to AID’s exclusive data 

There’s one likely reason why Renault’s bigwigs are unlikely to toast Zoe’s outwardly gleaming victory in last year’s only slightly larger West European electric car (BEV) market

Making it a hollow victory, last year’s sector dominating Zoe registrations were skewed by the model’s heavy dependence on its still highly subsidised French domestic market where over 50 per cent of total sales were registered
