Last year, according to AID’s exclusive electric car sales figures, saw the setting of a new milestone in Western Europe. Full year sales of pure Battery Electric Vehicles
(BEVs) in Western Europe – excluding Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) – accounted for a highest-ever 1 per cent of last year’s West European new car market. Yet another sign that of late Europe’s new car buyers have finally warmed to the real viability of latest BEVs, the sector’s sales share in December’s otherwise shrinking overall car market ballooned to 1.5 per cent
Exclusive early sales estimates from AID, compiled every month, reveal that last year’s West European sales of BEVs soared by nearly 50 per cent to a new historic high of close on 137,000 sales.
Compared with last year’s overall West European new car market, and excluding all commercially registered BEVs, that represents a milestone 1 per cent of last year’s regional passenger car sales.
Apart from Norway’s still highly charged BEV market, both Germany and the Netherlands stood out among last year’s European electric car market bright spots.
