Setting a new milestone, this November Germany headed Europe’s electric (BEV) car sales chart, according to AID’s provisional round-up of November’s West European BEV market. With 3,031 pure electric cars hitting Germany’s roads for the first time this November - a near threefold jump in monthly sales - Germany nudged aside Norway into the unfamiliar second position
Norway’s BEV sales this November may have risen by just 5.5 per cent, but the total number of pure electric car sold that months still reached some 2,704 units.
Compared with Germany’s bumper BEV sales month, adding up to just 1 per cent of the country’s overall new car market in November, November’s turnout brings Norway’s pure electric car sales share this November to 19.7 per cent.
That’s one-in-five cars sold in Norway that month.
Despite the pole-vault jump in Germany’s November electric car market and the coveted European BEV sales crown for the month of November, for the eleven months to date, in both sales volume and market share terms in particular, it was no contest.
Drawing attention to the striking significance of Norway’s closely monitored BEV market, sales for the eleven months to November already reached some 28,600 units.
That’s nearly a third up on the same period last year.
Germany, by direct comparison, saw 21,644 BEV registrations for the same eleven months.
However, doubly underlining the sudden thrust to Germany’s BEV sales expansion, that’s a more than doubling in cumulative BEV sales to November.
Drawing attention to the sharp recent pick up in BEV sales pace, this follows a near tripling in Germany’s November BEV sales.
