Mercedes gains ground on BMW and Audi in tug of war over global prestige sector pole position

Last year Mercedes fired its opening broadside in the intensifying premium car war across the bows of rival German carmakers BMW and Audi, which have continued to outsell Mercedesí chariots on the still expanding global prestige sector car scene. 

Driven by its determination to claw back eventually the prestige sector crown, Mercedes has progressively narrowed the gap to its more successful BMW and Audi rivals.

Last year was no exception. 

The Mercedes car brand, excluding its Smart offshoot, reported sales of 1.46 million vehicles last year, up 10.7 per cent from the previous year, boosting its sales share of AIDís global prestige sector sales chart by almost half-a-percentage point to 25.7 per cent.
