In March, if not during this year’s opening quarter, BMW has clearly done enough to
spoil the party atmosphere seen of late at Mercedes’ Stuttgart headquarters by
regaining the coveted position as the world’s fastest-growing prestige car brand
Under fire from a powerful volley of competitive shots from sector rivals Audi and Mercedes, whose eyes
remain firmly focused on its coveted prestige sector crown, BMW not only remains the world’s leading
prestige sector carmaker, this March it was also the fastest gainer in the pack.

All too wary of the underlying leadership challenge
from its two compatriot rivals, BMW clearly shifted up a gear, and in consequence can look back at an excellent
month.
Its March car sales on the global scene rose 16.9 per cent to 186,126 units, outpacing both Audi and
Mercedes as a result, which in turn upped their global prestige sector sales by a respective 15.4 and 13.3 per
cent.
Mercedes’ bigwigs, after failing to match BMW’s and Audi’s slightly faster rate of advance in March, may
still derive some soothing comfort from the fact that during this year’s first quarter Mercedes remains the
fastest gainer in the group...more
