Tesla Model S outsells S-Class in Europe

Of the new luxury chariots sold in Western Europe last year - a comparatively small segment best typified by Mercedesí pricey S-Class - the already long-serving Tesla Model S, a pure electric car, was responsible for the lionís share of sector sales. According to AIDís own car sales numbers, last year the Tesla Model S alone attracted some sector-leading 15,400 West European sales

Sending out yet another strong signal as to what the future holds in store, last year a pure electric car was already more popular among the regionís well-to-do than conventionally powered same sector luxury models from Europeís aristocratic old guard, chiefly Mercedes, BMW and Audi.

According to AIDís own data, last yearís sales of the Tesla Models S reached some 15,400 units.

By comparison, and also for Western Europe, that compares with a lower 13,200 same year sales from the Mercedes S-Class, still the archetypal luxury car favoured by senior company bosses and bankers.

The third position in this small sector went to the BMW 7-Series with 11,100 sales last year.

Finally, fourth slot went to Audiís new A8. Impeded by the changeover to a totally new model, last yearís A8 sales in Western Europe reached just 5,600 units, according to AID data.
